Direct-Injection for Tree Protection
About Direct-Injection HOW DOES IT WORK? A needle is inserted just beneath the bark.
WHAT IS IT? Direct-Injection is the most environmentally sustainable
treatment system to date. It is a method used to protect trees from insects and
diseases. It is also used for adding nutrients and growth control hormones.
One ml of the proper chemical solution is injected between the bark
and the wood. This is the cambium layer where the tree's
circulatory system transports water and nutrients from the
roots up to every leaf. Each tree is injected every 4-6” around the
base, or root flare. Within 24 hours, the entire tree is protected
systemically, from the inside for the remainder of the growing
season.
WHY NOT JUST SPRAY? Spraying requires the use of very large
amounts of pesticides and is not able to reach every part of the tree,
leaving some parts unprotected. Any spray that doesn’t land on the
tree is carried in the air across large areas, leaving a pesticide residue
everywhere it goes -- grass, ponts, patios, pools, toys, in your
windows, etc. Spray pesticides contain known carcinogens that are
easily absorbed through the skin and lungs.
WHY NOT OTHER MICRO-INJECTION SYSTEMS?
Previous injection systems have a very good rate of control
and protection. However, we now know that drilling holes
into the wood and placing capsules into the holes to deliver
treatments is a very invasive and traumatic event for trees.
The drill holes cut into the wood, interrupting the flow of
water and nutrients from the roots to the canopy.
With holes every 4-6" around the base of the tree,
that's a very large and permanent interruption. These holes also provide easy access
for insects and fungus. Additionally, there are all of those plastic capsules with pesticide
residue to be discarded. They are unattractive on the tree while they slowly drain out,
dangerous to curious kids or pets, and yet another non-biodegradable addition to
our landfills.
